At Sano, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly: email address and password for account creation; profile information (name, native language, target language, learning goals); voice recordings and text messages during practice sessions; and subscription and payment information. We also automatically collect: device information and browser type; usage data (session frequency, duration, features used); and cookies and similar technologies for authentication and analytics.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: provide and improve our language learning service; process your practice sessions with AI tutors; generate personalized feedback on your speaking; track your progress and maintain streaks; process payments and manage subscriptions; send service-related communications; and analyze usage patterns to improve Sano.
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with trusted service providers who help us operate Sano: Supabase (database and authentication); OpenAI and Azure (AI language processing and speech services); Stripe (payment processing); RevenueCat (subscription management); Vercel (hosting and analytics); and Mixpanel (product analytics). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase (PostgreSQL database) and Upstash (Redis cache). Voice recordings are stored temporarily in Supabase Storage and may be deleted after your session ends. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. We implement access controls and regular security reviews.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Session data and conversation history are retained to provide progress tracking features. You can request deletion of your data at any time. Audio recordings are retained for the duration of your session and may be automatically deleted afterward. After account deletion, we may retain anonymized data for analytics purposes.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to: access your personal data through your account settings; correct inaccurate information in your profile; delete your account and associated data; export your data in a portable format; opt out of non-essential communications; and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. 7. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies for: authentication (keeping you logged in); preferences (remembering your settings); and analytics (understanding how you use Sano). You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some features of the service.
8. Children's Privacy
Sano is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@sano.fi.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Our service providers operate in various jurisdictions including the United States and European Union. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the service. Your continued use of Sano after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
